Author / Illustrator Profile Alan Ahlberg was born in 1938. He worked as a postman, a grave digger and a plumber before becoming a primary teacher and, eventually, Headmaster. Alan began writing stories to go with his wife’s illustrations. They went on to write many successful books together until Janet’s death in 1994. The Ahlbergs much acclaimed Each Peach Pear Plum won the 1978 Kate Greenaway Medal and has been followed by many more bestselling picture books, including Peepo (Best Books for Babies Award winner), The Jolly Postman and The Jolly Christmas Postman which won the 1991 Kate Greenaway Medal. Allan lives in Leicester with their daughter, Jessica.
