Author / Illustrator Profile David Almond grew up in a small steep town overlooking the river Tyne, where the lives of the people were filled with mysterious and unexpected events, which inspired many of his stories. He has worked as a postman, brush salesman, editor and teacher, and always wanted to be a writer. He has lived by the North Sea, in inner city Manchester, in a Suffolk farmhouse and a remote and dilapidated Norfolk mansion, where he wrote his first stories. David says that writing can be difficult, but sometimes feels like a kind of magic. To him stories are living things – among the most important things in the world.
