Author / Illustrator Profile Malorie Blackman was born in London in 1962. Her family comes from Barbados, but she has spent most of her life south of the Thames. She wanted to be a teacher, but for several reasons ended up studying computer science at Thames Polytechnic, and working in a software house. Malorie gave up work so that she could write full time in 1990 and says she gets her ideas through being incredibly nosy. If you are having a conversation with your friends on the bus or train, just look who is sitting behind you first! In 1998 Malorie’s book Pig-heart Boy was Highly Commended in the Longer Novels Category of the Sheffield Children’s Book Award.
Shortlisted Title 2002 Noughts and Crosses
