Author / Illustrator Profile
Morris Gleitzman
Morris Gleitzman was born in 1953 in Sleaford, Lincolnshire,
and emigrated to Australia with his family when he was sixteen.
He worked as a shelf
stacker, frozen chicken defroster, fashion designer’s assistant and Rolling
Stock unhooker among other things before gaining a degree in Professional
Writing. He soon became one of Australia’s best-known TV writers, and his work
included a play for children’s TV,”The other facts of life”, which he then
turned into a novel. His second novel,” Two weeks with the Queen” was adapted
into a very successful play. The London production, directed by Alan Ayckbourn,
was at the National Theatre.
Morris lives in Sidney, where
he writes a column for the Sydney Morning Herald, enjoyed in this country by
readers of Young Telegraph. He says he likes to present tough subjects in a
funny and offbeat way.
